Local Shopping
Shopping for basic necessities like toiletries, teaching supplies, clothes, and simple home furnishings is easy. Teachers often enjoy KTV (karaoke), renting an electric scooter or bicycle, going to the outdoor roller-skating rink, flying over water on a zip-line, or sampling the snacks available from the numerous street vendors near campus.
Local Dining
Two campus restaurants serve Western food, but if those don’t satisfy your palate, a number of cheap and delicious Chinese eateries can be found on campus or nearby.
Local History
Xinzheng is also the birthplace of Chinese history dating back more than 5,000 years. Numerous archaeological sites are close, including the dynastic ruins of several ancient Chinese capitals, including Zhengzhou, Luoyang, and Kaifeng.
Zhengzhou
For those wanting a more modern scene, we are less than one hour away from Zhengzhou, a large metropolitan city and the present capital of Henan Province, also an ancient capital of China in previous dynasty’s. On most weekends, teachers can take a free university bus to Zhengzhou for fun and more shopping options. While there, you can find American favorites such as Papa John’s Pizza, McDonalds, Dairy Queen, KFC, and Wal-Mart, as well as Japanese, Indian, and Korean restuarants. Zhengzhou is also home to a train station and airport. The train station has sleek high-speed bullet trains, comfortable sleeper cars. Bilingual students and Chinese staff members gladly help with travel reservations and assist you with planning your trip. They may even offer to take you to their homes for a weekend!
China and Asia
The airport in Zhengzhou puts the rest of China, and all of Asia, in close reach! Usually during the Winter and Summer Holidays, teachers will use the hub of Henan as starting point for traveling to Hong Kong, Dalian, Harbin, Kunming, Chengdu, Beijing, Shanghai, Thailand, the Philippines, Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore, India and so much more! With a rich history, China is always welcoming and enriching for visitors, while having the freedom to travel all over the eastern side of the world provides a richness to your life that has yet to be explored.
